The North American SIMMOD Users Group (NASUG) is an organization for the exchange of ideas and experiences between
SIMMOD users primarily working on North American airspace and airport projects.
Organization
- Membership. NASUG membership will be open to SIMMOD users, project sponsers, and potential users from
all countries; however, the primary membership will be composed of those performing studies in North America. Other
organizations with an interest in SIMMOD may be invited to attend.
- Officers. The Chair and Secretary will be elected at the spring meeting to serve a two-year term of
office. The Vice-Chair will automatically be filled by the Chair of the European SIMMOD Users Group. The Chair will
preside over the Group and will appoint a Deputy-Chair to preside over the meetings in the Chair's absence. The
Secretary will distribute minutes of each meeting before the next meeting. The Chair and the Secretary will
coordinate to develop meeting agendas, invite speakers, etc.
- Meetings. NASUG will meet twice annually, generally in the spring and in the fall. Meeting location will
rotate through the membership, with a particular organization accepting responsibility for the venue. If necessary
to supplement meeting costs, a nominal registration fee will be required for meeting attendance.
Activities/Actions/Goals
- Act as a forum for the presentation of studies carried out by the various organizations, thereby enabling users
to become aware of the work being carried out by others.
- Encourage the further adoption and promote the use of SIMMOD where appropriate for airport and airspace modeling
in North America.
- Encourage collaboration between groups modeling similar problems and identiry areas of common difficulty.
- Maintain a list of SIMMOD study sites, denoting who performed the study and whoe "owns" the SIMMOD input files
(i.e., who to contact if an organization wishes to obtain the input files). The pupose is two-fold: promote
SIMMOD's use by demonstrating the number of studies performed and reduce effort for any future modeling while
ensuring conformity between separate analyses of the same area.
- Provide members to the "SIMMOD Steering Committee" for directing FAA on SIMMOD modeling needs, including bug
fixes, new logic, and prioritization of maintenance and development efforts.
- Through the "SIMMOD Steering Committee", document the various problems experienced with the SIMMOD engine and
data, identify the seriousness of the problem, and make formal approaches to the FAA for modifications and additions
to the code.
- Maintain a SIMMOD user web-page with general SIMMOD information, helpful hints, reported errors, code fixes, and
logic enhancements in the latest release, and code fixes since the latest release.
